SABBIA RESTAURANT + BAR

A bespoke restaurant that brings the essence of the sea to the heart of Milan.

Dive into a dreamlike marine landscape: a place where light filters through resin like sunrays in deep water, where brass glimmers like long-forgotten treasures, and where every object whispers the name of a distant shore.

Nestled along Milan’s iconic Naviglio canal, Sabbia reinvents the soul of the sea in the heart of the city. The name sets the tone for an interior that flows between the poetic and the immersive, inspired by the gentle power of ocean waves.

Brass details and painted metal fixtures evoke vintage underwater equipment, subtly anchoring the concept to a more tactile and mechanical narrative, a nod to underwater exploration. These materials add warmth and contrast, shining against the cooler tones of resin and inviting closer inspection. The visual language is both contemporary and nostalgic, echoing the elegance of nautical design while embracing an experimental materiality.

The soul and spirit of the sea, created through design

The central counter, sculpted from translucent bio-resin tubes, becomes the luminous heart of the space. Backlit to mimic the sensation of light penetrating ocean depths, it creates a captivating underwater atmosphere. This sense of depth and movement is further enhanced by the play of textures and reflections throughout the space, capturing the ephemeral qualities of sea foam and shifting tides.

Every detail tells a story, but none more personal than the tables. Each holds a hidden memory: a QR code that links to a real beach somewhere in the world. The restaurant owner, an avid sand collector, has incorporated grains of memory into the experience. These intimate touches transform each dining surface into a portal, inviting guests to discover new horizons while remaining anchored to the tranquil sophistication of Sabbia.
