The retail and exhibition sectors are in constant evolution. Sustainability, ergonomic use of spaces, and multisensory experience have taken on a key role in design.

When it comes to designing a space, something is created that did not exist before: in the Retail and exhibition sectors, design follows precise rules that combine creativity with functionality. However, thanks to continuously developing production capabilities and increasingly sophisticated realization tools, the world of creativity applied to purpose-driven environments often approaches the artistic world.

Another fundamental aspect for both sectors is the functional use of spaces. Proper flow planning is essential for designing a retail outlet and even more so for a stand, which is typically designed within larger structures, such as exhibition halls.

Regarding creativity, it is determined by the scenic nature of the projects, thus giving greater emphasis to the product and increased visibility to the brand. The creative element in exhibitions is further enhanced by the relatively short lifespan of stands: there is more daring. A stand serves a purely representative function, which increases the need to maximize consumer impact. Particular shapes and objects, made ad hoc, are preferred. Custom production, therefore, increases the possibility of personalizing each object, which can take on characteristics similar to those of a work of art. At the design level, in the world of exhibitions, there are fewer construction limits, as the nature of temporary structures allows the designer to experiment with new architectural forms, innovative materials, and even bold technological solutions.

Ecological and environmental sustainability is becoming increasingly important in design: the trend to use recyclable and easily disposable materials will eventually become a rule. This feature is very relevant for the exhibition sector, where, due to the short duration of the project, there was previously the issue of disposal or reuse. Thanks to ongoing research, innovative materials now exist that minimize ecological impact. In retail outlets, on the other hand, in addition to the application of innovative materials, the use of multimedia technologies allows for the display of more content without changing the overall scenario.
