It is a majestic site located in the industrial area along the ring road and part of the redevelopment plans for the area.
Built for the treatment of metropolitan waste, it is a place which conveys a message of order and visual simplicity. By burning waste at a temperature of more than 1000 °C, the waste-to-energy plant of Turin can recover the energy contained in waste and produce electricity. For the design of the plant, Bertone Design chose modern and basic lines capable of integrating technological evolution and care for the environment. A feeling confirmed by the large sloping glass walls on which flows a veil of water that merges with the entrance pool, the tangible evidence that beauty and efficiency can coexist. With its 120-metre-high chimney, the waste-to-energy plant is today one of the buildings that most characterise Turin skyline. A terrace built right on top of the plant – accessed through a transparent outside lift – offers a magnificent view of the city and the Alps.
